Concordance with Gubin et al.

The first large scale erythroid transcriptome profiling was performed by Gubin et al., using human hematopoietic stems which were collected from peripheral circulation and cultured with cytokines. A subtraction screen was performed on CD71 (transferrin receptor) positive cells responsive to erythropoietin versus baseline. The data were submitted to Unilib (ad_library) and are also accessible via the author's website at NIH.

Using gene symbols provided in this dataset, we were able to compare our results generated in the G1E model system, a murine cell line. The most abundant erythropoietin-responsive clones isolated in the subtraction screen were also among the most abundant transcripts in the G1E system. Transcripts expressed above a signal value of 3000 on the microarray are highlighted. Where the transcript was represented on the array by more than one probeset, the probeset with the highest signal value is shown. The number shown in the "clones" column is the number of clones identified in the subtraction screen. Single-copy clones were omitted from this summary. Where gene symbols do not agree between mouse and human (for instance, HSP90 in human corresponds to Hsp86 in mice) the mouse equivalent is listed. The columns from the microarray (0 to 30 hours) are the signal values averaged from triplicates for each time point. Links to human and mouse sections of Unigene and the murine locus link are provided at right. The Unigene cluster assignments are subject to change and may be remapped in the future.
