Fred and Suzanne Biesecker Center for Pediatric Liver Disease
The Fred and Suzanne Biesecker Center for Pediatric Liver Disease is dedicated to studying biliary atresia and bile duct development. The Center also studies mechanisms of liver regeneration and immune response after transplantation. In addition to bringing together experts across hospital disciplines, such as gastroenterology, human genetics and pathology, the Biesecker Center partners closely with the adult liver program at the University of Pennsylvania. Transplant surgeons at the Center, for instance, treat pediatric patients at Children’s Hospital and adult patients at Penn. The Biesecker Center is closely aligned with the Biliary Atresia Research Consortium, a NIH-funded network of clinical sites and a coordinating center designed to propose, develop and undertake trials related to biliary atresia.
