Center for Injury Research and Prevention

The Center for Injury Research and Prevention (formerly TraumaLink) is an interdisciplinary pediatric injury research center located within the Division of General Pediatrics at Children’s Hospital. With 30 core staff, the center focuses on the promotion of interdisciplinary interactions among professionals (clinicians, engineers and epidemiologists, among others) to address the complex issues involved in pediatric injury and its prevention. The center is the home of Partners for Child Passenger Safety, a five-year child occupant protection research project, and the Child and Adolescent Reactions to Injury and Trauma (CARIT) Project. The center’s success in promoting an interdisciplinary approach to pediatric injury control has been recognized by major project funding from HRSA (MCHB and EMSC), NHTSA, and the State Farm Insurance Companies. The CARIT Project is examining child and parent responses to traumatic injury in the first large prospective study of this issue in the United States. The Center has formed C-ChIPS, an industrial affiliate program being developed under the auspices of the NSF’s Industry/University Collaborative Research Center (I/UCRC) Program.
