Center for Injury Research and Prevention
The Center for Injury Research and Prevention (CIRP), formerly known as TraumaLink, is an interdisciplinary pediatric injury research center located within the Division of General Pediatrics at Children's Hospital. With 50 core staff, this unique multidisciplinary center focuses on advancing the safety of children and young adults through science.
CIRP is the home of the Young Driver Research Initiative, a scientifically rigorous, teen-centered research project with the goal of launching an evidence-based, comprehensive outreach and education initiative to reduce young driver crashes. It also houses Partners for Child Passenger Safety, the world's largest child-focused motor vehicle crash surveillance system research project, and Child and Adolescent Reactions to Injury and Trauma, the first large prospective study in the U.S. of child and parent responses to traumatic injury.
In 2005, CIRP formed the Center for Child Injury Prevention Studies - a center where faculty and students work side-by-side to conduct translational research that is practical to industry. It is an Industry/University Cooperative Research Center established by a grant from the National Science Foundation.
CIRP's success in promoting an interdisciplinary approach to pediatric injury control has been recognized by major project funding from the Health Resources and Services Administration's Maternal and Child Health Bureau and Emergency Medical Services for Children; the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration; and State Farm Insurance Companies®.
