CChIPS Operation
What are the roles of the IAB, The Center for Injury Research and Prevention, CHOP, and NSF?
-
The Industrial Advisory Board (IAB) provides:
- memberships fees (source of funding)
- technical support, scientific relevance & direction
-
The Center for Injury Research and Prevention provides:
- faculty and students: research and innovation
- interdisciplinary expertise - research and analysis
-
The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia provides:
- administration and fiduciary oversight of CCHIPS
- no overhead on all membership fees as a direct financial contribution
- contract and patent management through its Technology Transfer Office
-
National Science Foundation provides:
- annual seed money, TIE grants, student funding
- an independent evaluator
- connectivity: other I/UCRCs, NSF, federal agencies
- other sources of funding, such as TIE grants, summer student funding, collaborative research funding, etc.
How much of the membership fee goes to the research?
100% of the membership fee goes to the research. The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia waives overhead on the membership fees as a direct contribution to the research. Administration of the Center is covered by an annual grant from the National Science Foundation.
What determines the budget available for CChIPS Research Projects?
Financial support for the research comes from CChIPS member companies and the NSF. Industry and other federal agencies support the I/UCRC through annual membership fees. This group of members forms the Industrial Advisory Board. Annual membership fees from each member company form the CChIPS annual budget.
