Practice-Based Research Networks: The Laboratories of Primary Care Research: This manuscript is an excellent review of practice-based research networks (PBRNs), their historical development, and their contribution over the years to healthcare practice.
Clinician-based Involvement in Clinical Research: Primary Care Practice-based Research Networks: This presentation was made at a steering committee meeting for "Building Collaboration for Clinical Research Networks." The presentation provides a good overview of the growth of PBRNs over the past few years and provides solid examples of some relevant research findings that would have been unobtainable using traditional research trials.
AHRQ Support for Primary Care Practice-Based Research Networks: The Agency for Healthcare and Research Quality (AHRQ) contracts many research studies to its members, such as the Hospital's PeRC. AHRQ's Web site describes the rolf of PBRNs role and provides a variety of information and links.
Primary Care Practice-Based Research Networks Resource Center: AHRQ and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, in conjunction with Indiana University School of Medicine, offer the PBRN Resource Center, which provides support resources for PBRN initiatives.
Federation of Practice Based Research Networks: The Federation of Practice Based Research Networks offers a starting point to begin learning about the many different types of PBRN's in the United States.
The March-April 2007 issue of the Journal of the American Board of Family Medicine (Vol. 20, Issue 2) focused on practice-based research. The issue highlights examples of the potential benefits of PBRNs, such as the network employed by PeRC. All the articles listed here are open access:
