The Clinical Reporting Unit's Data Curation Activities Support Hospital Billing Practices

At the request of one of the Hospital's primary care centers, the Clinical Reporting Unit (CRU) of the Center for Biomedical Informatics recently developed a report that provides data for pulse oximeter usage and related services.

The resulting report had an immediate impact on billing accuracy. The center has already retroactively identified over $24,000 in missed charges related to pulse oximeter usage, leading to the subsequent collection of $18,000 in additional revenue.

The combination of the Hospital's electronic health record and the CRU's data reporting expertise and in-depth knowledge of underlying data systems and schemas facilitate new areas of research. These resources are valuable for the research community and a diverse array of Hospital departments, and yield tangible benefits for the bottom line.

Researchers, clinical staff and administrators are encouraged to work with members of the CRU to investigate novel ways of using historical and current data to affect their operations or research.

Please contact the CRU for more information on research opportunities.
