The Center for Biomedical Informatics Education group (CBMiEd) has launched a new program to recognize employees participating in a wide variety of its educational sessions by issuing a Certificate of Informatics. The certificate serves as a formal endorsement of healthcare and research professionals and staff who wish to gain and apply knowledge in the area of biomedical informatics, but who may not consider themselves to be informaticists.
The program awards credits for attending informatics educational events in person or by completing learning materials through CBMiEd’s Web site. CBMiEd will issue a personalized certificate once 30 credits are accrued.
The comprehensive program includes participation in recurring CBMiEd-sponsored events like its Healthcare Informatics Colloquium Series and the Informatics Journal Club. For these hour-long events, 1 credit is awarded for physical attendance in person and a half credit is granted for completing the online event. Credits may also be accrued by attending the annual Greater Philadelphia Healthcare Informatics Symposium and selected bioinformatics educational events throughout the academic year.
CBMiEd plans to expand the program to include extra-institutional learning such as the American Medical Informatics Association’s 10x10 curriculum.
Online registration for the program, a more detailed explanation of the credit reward system, and FAQs are available through the Certificate of Informatics Web site . Questions about the program should be directed to Mark Diltz, manager of CBMiEd, at ext. 62775 or by e-mail at diltz_AT_email.chop.edu
