Sponsored Projects and Business Management

Management of project funding is complicated and changes rapidly. Rules and terms vary by sponsor, and a single sponsor can even use different sets for different types of award mechanisms. To help CHOP investigators navigate these and other challenges that arise throughout the life-cycle of funding, SPRBM provides each with two key resources: their Sponsored Projects Officer (SPO) and their Research Business Manager (RBM). On the behalf of faculty, Sponsored Projects Officers (SPO) serve as CHOP's negotiators and advocates with funders and any other external entity sponsoring projects. They also guide researchers on application submissions, grants and sub-award management and institutional approvals and are responsible for institutional sign-offs. Research Business Managers (RBM) develop budgets and spending plans for faculty, in addition to providing account oversight, including cost monitoring, salary allocations, and project close-out. They serve as the researcher's financial advisors.
