Mission Statement

We advance the health of children by turning scientific discovery into medical innovation.

The CHOP Research Institute fulfills The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia's long-standing dedication to pediatric research and its endeavors are the embodiment of the Hospital's "bench to bedside" philosophy. All research activities at Children's Hospital are administratively organized under the aegis of the Research Institute.

Research Spotlight*

Hospital Investigator Pens Book

Dr. Offit's book, "The Cutter Incident: How America's First Polio Vaccine Led to the Growing Vaccine Crisis", offers a comprehensive account of the triumph of polio vaccine development and approval, the medical tragedy associated with the Cutter incident, the scientific and legal backlash and the incident's continuing impact on the current vaccine.

CHOP Research*

Katherine A. High, MD

I am a hematologist and Howard Hughes Medical Institute investigator specializing in blood coagulation. My current research on a gene therapy approach to hemophilia will lead to a therapeutic correction of blood Factor IX deficiency, allowing for the prevention of bleeds rather than their treatment after occurrence.

Research Technology*

Safety Handlebar

Flaura Winston, MD, PhD, and Kristy Arbogast, PhD, received two patent awards for developing a safety handlebar and a retrofit safety handlebar that absorb energy and therefore reduce abdominal and other injuries to bicycle riders when they collide with the handlebar.
